My name is Wendy, and I grew up being ragged on it… The first nickname I had was Vendela, given to me by my “beloved” uncle. He still calls me that to this day, though I prefer my pseudonym Isis.

My weirdest nickname is from my sister. She calls me squishy. *shuddering* Now her friends have picked up on it.

My first nickname was Balki (from perfect strangers) and it made me feel like there must be something wrong with the way I talked (but it was actually because I sorta looked like him at the time)

Never give up, Brett! I believe in you. My name is Brendan so obviously people called me Kangaroo Boy in elementary school. No reason why. I didn’t ask for it. Just some girl started calling me that in class one day and it caught on with the other kids. I mean…I don’t even like kangaroos.

I’ve had lots of nicknames over the years, but the first one was probably: Shasha Ree, which was how I said my first and middle names as a kid. My older sister started calling me that, then my mom. I hate the name. It’s childish, of course, but people also use a certain condescending tone when they say it.

My grandfather has a Chinese accent and he can’t pronounce h and r very well. So when he says my name it sounds like Cistina. So when I was a little kid I only picked up Tina in my name from him, and I also couldn’t pronounce Chris. So whenever someone called me Christina I would say ‘no my name is Tina.’ or at least that’s what I’ve been told. As I got older I’ve been also called Chris, Chrissy, and X-Tina.

In high school physics, I can constantly zoned out. We did one project where we were working with candles, and without thinking I wrote my name as “Candle Anderson.” That’s the first nickname that wasn’t just a variation on my name (although you could say Candle and Caroline are pretty close).

My first nickname was Shortcake. This tall black dude in Jr High who always had drumsticks in his back pocket used to call me that. Now that I think about it, how tall could the guy have been? We were 12. I have a feeling he got left back, maybe. Not because he was black! I mean, black people don’t get left back for being black! And black people aren’t dumb! Stop saying black! Black! Oh my god! Stop me from talking!

People called me Cori for a while, which…that’s just half my name. Lazy. Didn’t really like it. In high school I was called either Jew/The Jew, or C-Section by the goth crowd I hung out with sometimes. Still happens sometimes when I go home, I find it kind of amusing.

My last name is Longo, and the first nickname I ever had was Shortstop. See… cuz… Long… Short… Stop… Go. At the time I wasn’t thrilled about it, but then I played shortstop in little league, and grew to love it.
