Loved the chemistry between Phil and Vanessa. Wowza. I’m younger than most here (old enough to see Pulp Fiction) but my first comic series were a compilation of comics based on Cartoon Network shows. Like there were Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and related to Phil, Samurai Jack. I ate those up.

Is it possible that the mini bear mentioned by “Sea Monkey HQ” is the Water Bear? It is a microscopic 8 legged creature that is able to survive in a dehydrated state like sea monkey eggs.
Trivia, it can also survive in the vacuum of space while dehydrated!

My first official graphic novel was Maus part 2. I was simultaneously introduced to independent comics (thanks mom!) and the Holocaust (thanks a lot Speigelman!), in fifth grade. I was hooked. Dark Horse, Fantagraphics, and Dynamite comics now have most of my money.

Oh my gosh, this episode was terrific — so funny. I was crying I was laughing so hard.

As a kid, I read Archie and strips in the paper, and that was about it. In college, a friend introduced me to Gaiman’s Sandman. That was the first comic I read start to finish.

I also read Simpsons and Futurama comics on occasion.

If not, I haven’t bought any comics except the three issues of the Craptacular B-Sides, which I bought in college because I thought the name was funny.

Before moving onto more typical prepubescent comic pursuits like Archie or Richie Rich or Donald Duck, I remember siiting in my Uncle’s basement reading a stack of weird old Gold Key comics from the ’60s like Dr. Solar and Turok.

The first comic I collected seriously was John Byrne’s Alpha Flight. It was a seriously mediocre book, but I think I felt I was being a good patriotic Canadian by reading it.

i grew up in florida unaware of comic book stores, so the thing that i was very into was the archie digests and double digests at publix supermarket checkouts. i had a mighty collection. between that and my odd habit of listening exclusively to the oldies station on the radio in my room, it was like growing up in the 50’s.

I never really collected comics, but I do own a wrapped-in-plastic copy of the issue where Superman is “killed” by Doomsday.

On an unrelated note, my family also says “Which one’s Will?” whenever we hear “Fire at Will!”
