While I had seen many web videos over the years, I did not get totally obsessed until I watched the very first episode of Felicia Day’s “The Guild”. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched that video. It was so good, I ended up donating to “The Guild” several times to help them complete production of that original season.

In the early days of the Internet I never had a computer or connection fast enough to download videos till I left for college with a brand new desktop and a school-sponsored T1 line. Finding the COPS/Star Wars parody TROOPS by Kevin Rubio was a revelation in that I was not actually the biggest Star Wars nerd ever. I watched it morning, noon, and night and showed it to everyone I met.

The first video that i was obsessed with would definitely be Daughters by Derrick Comedy. Probably the funniest thing I’d ever seen on the Internet!

Halifax by Picnicface is definitely the first one that I watched over and over again. It is essentially a glorified powerpoint presentation, but I know all the words, and friends and I still quote lines from it.

“Dread Hawk” is still one of the funniest things to me in the entire world.

The first web video I remember watching a hundred times was the original invisible rope prank. I don’t know what it was, maybe my love for Jackass type stuff at the time, but I remember just dying laughing at it over and over. For your viewing pleasure:

The first web video i can recall watching and starting my tirade of youtube watching, was the Surfer Interview. http://youtu.be/hJdF8DJ70Dc I had watched other web videos previously but this one sticks out in my mind greatly.

The first web video I remember DOWNLOADING (over a course of over half a day- no way was I going to try an wait for something to load as a streaming video! Streaming was lame in 2001!) was a short little video that someone had recorded at a convention in the 90s. It was a group of men watching the absolutely terrible trailer/sizzle reel to a failed American re-make of the anime Sailor Moon.

While the footage of the odd cartoon/live action hybrid remake was hilarious (25-year-old women pretending to be 12-year-olds, wheelchair dancing, wheelchairs in SPACE, the absolute worst of early 90s fashion, and an earworm of a terrible theme song) the fact that the only audience that you see and hear happen to be grown-ass men and that they’re so into watching this terrible footage from a show made purely with little girls in mind? That’s what really made me continue to watch it. Now I wonder, of course, if those same guys are now all “bronies”.

A version with the introduction cut off is, of course, on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwQSWrA9CNg

I know there were plenty of earlier ones, but all that comes to mind is Can’t Hug Every Cat

The first web video that I was ever obsessed with was called “Hi I’m a Marvel and I’m a DC,” a parody of the “Hi I’m a Mac and I’m a PC” commercials that were running at the time. It basically poked fun at the DC movie franchise and how outdated and poorly structured it was compared to the newer Marvel movies. When I first came across it, I was completely obsessed with Marvel Comic (still am) and became this crazy die hard fanboy at the age of 12. None of my friends were really that nerdy, so I was pretty much alone in my comic obsession. I loved the video because it showed that there were people who liked the same weird stupid stuff that I liked. I had yet to realize how many of us weirdos there actually were…

The first web video I can remember being obsessed with was this talking cat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LBKVXyrHcw . I watched that video countless times, and it never got less funny. I ended up scouring youtube for every talking animal video I could find, but none could beat it.

First Web Video I was obsessed with was a weird one. It was a youtube series by a guy named Robert Benfer, but he went by the name Knox. and he made Claymations. First one I saw was Hotdog Job. I was like 10 or 11 when I saw them and they completely shaped my sense of humor and the kind of things I like today. It was like If Tim and Eric made cartoons. I got OBSESSED and I even got a signed DVD of the series for Christmas. I would quote them nonstop. I would try making my own and fail miserably. And just recently he announced hes ending the series Next Year. And some part of me Understands. But it’s like the last part of my childhood that’s still around and now that its ending I’m realizing i’m growing up but thanks to Knox I know I can grow up and still do childish things. That Signed DVD Is still my most prized posession.

The first web video I was obsessed with would be Nerimon’s “Pokemon What Happened To You?” which was just an acoustic song, but he captured all the awesome–and terrible yet fond–things about the original pokemon games, and all the unnecessary or straight-out silly things they’ve done to the games since then, from the radio on the pokedex to ditto’s sole use as an egg-producer.

Not really a good story about this but the first web video that I was obsessed with was probably Ebaum’s World’s animated End of the World video. I used to watch it almost everyday which wasn’t easy because this was back in the dial-up days so it would take hours to load.

The first internet video I was obsessed with was the music video of “Everybody to the Limit” by Strong Bad. My brother showed it to me when I was eleven or twelve, and from that point on I was hooked. I started religiously going to HomestarRunner.com and watching everything they put out. From there, I discovered the wonder that is the internet. So, one could say that that video gave me the push I needed to become the dedicated citizen of the internet I am today!
As a side note, I can’t not talk about internet videos without linking to my niece’s very first instructional video, how to make bubble juice the easy way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLqkYp093uw I can’t help it. I’m a proud aunt.

I think my first would be the video for the song “The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny” by Lemon Demon: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/285267.

The video that I can remember getting ridiculously obsessed with is the clip for madtv “Can I have your number?”–it still kills me to this day when I watch it. I remember sending it to all of my friends, and posting bumper stickers (remember those?) on fb to my friends that said stuff like “Can I have it??” or “Y’vonne-my little cwossaint…a little brie on my cwossaint”. And yes I could probably recite the whole thing by heart still.

The Ron Swanson drunk on Snake Juice & dancing on a loop set to Who Dat Girl is the first web video I was really obsessed with. Ron Swanson dancing with that little hat is already one of the funniest things ever so it on a loop was just magic for me. I just let it play every time I get on my computer.

Easily it was ‘F You Baltimore’, the subtext of every car commercial made plain. It hits right in the juvenile, immature, funny guts that I hope to never lose. There’s nothing high-brow or sophisticated about this, but I love it all. I showed every friend I had, and found many of their reactions to be lacking. It probably didn’t help that I was just staring at them and smiling wide while they watched. Please peruse it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUTWz7nu_wk

Another vote for COPS/TROOPS here, I love how Tom Servo was one of the droids.

Anyway, I’m now addicted to Pocket Planes. CURSE YOU DAN HARMON!

I think the first video I ever really got into was the Chuck Testa Taxidermy Commercial. I died the first time I watched it and showed it to all my friends. Eventually I showed it to one of my teachers and she still shows it to her class.

The first web video I ever got obsessed with was that news report about an attempt to blow up a whale carcass with dynamite. This was in the dial-up era, so it was tiny, and the compression artifacts filled up half the screen. It was still amazing.

This a hard one, because it was so long ago.

I’m not sure there was a single video I was obsessed with, but I do remember some really early web shows I watch like Miss Muffet and the Muff Squad.

    Baker Street Walrus Mashup.

    http://vimeo.com/2429759#

Such a terribly bleak song perfectly intercut with the lamest viral videos of days past. This made my day, my week, my year, and still cheers me up without fail. It’s the trainer fist pumping, the walrus aggressively taking the sax as to not miss his cue, and Gerry Rafferty trying to soak in everything (or forget…).

“The Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger”. Not only is it hilarious, you learn something to, at least the first time you see it, after that i’m not exactly sure why i watched it over and over again. Also how awesome is that, it gets bitten by a cobra and survives! .

Mine is pretty pedestrian. Not sure if it even counts because it’s a music video, but OK Go’s “Here it Goes Again” enchanted me for a while. Think I’ll go watch it again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTAAsCNK7RA

The first web video I was obsessed with was watching LOST on the network site, I didn’t have a DVR and I was at college so it was incredible to have “on-demand” access.
