As for the firsts question, I realize I am a year and a half late, but Twin Peaks was cancelled too soon. This probably ages me a little bit.

There have been plenty which I was upset about going off the air, but the first one I was REALLY upset about was The Class – Jason Ritter, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lizzy Caplan, Andrea Anders. It was a really awesome show which they won’t even release on dvd!

Having Community on dvd would help to ease the pain a little, especially because I’m currently broke-ass and can’t afford them otherwise.

I’ve been thinking about this question a lot. A. Lot. It’s an excellent question. I grew up watching a ton of TV, so I thought it’d be easy to answer. But it’s not.

A lot of shows I watched as a little girl were old reruns like Mr. Ed.

I remember crying my eyes out when David the Gnome ended — not because I was sad it was over and there’d be no new episodes, but because David and his wife died at the end (they became trees).

As I got older, I tended to stop watching shows before they ended, so I didn’t really feel sad when they went off the air.

So I was probably a teen the first time I was genuinely sad a show went off the air — Mystery Science Theater 3000.

First show that I can remember being upset about being cancelled was the Naked Truth with Tea Leoni and Holland Taylor. Certainly not as unjust a cancellation as Arrested Development, but my younger self was very sad at the time, and still is a little.

I would say the first show I realized I was sad about maybe getting cancelled and then really getting cancelled was Veronica Mars. Such a great show! Since then it seems like I am always in love with a show on the brink of cancellation. #Community! #SixSeasonsAndAMovie!

Love, love, love the podcast! started listening when you were announced as part of the nerdist industries and have been listening to all the old episodes! But to get to the question at hand…the first show i remember that i was upset about being taken off the air was “My Two Dads”, which to a 10 year old girl was devastating and not because of Teen idol Chad Allen, but for underdog Giovanni Rabisi, perhaps my gaydar was developed early? 🙂

The first canceled show I was upset over was either Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Pushing Daisies, or Better Off Ted. All three shows were AMAZING, but suffered from poor viewership and/or the strike.

I loved SPACE CASES…it was a show in nickelodeon in like 96-97…starred the black power ranger and only had around 2 shortened seasons….was angry as heck when i realized the reruns they were showing for basically a year meant the show got cancelled.

We weren’t really allowed to watch much tv when I was growing up, but my parents knew there was no way in hell I was missing the end of Star Trek TNG. That was a heart-breaker!

I believe the first tv show I was extremely upset when I realized it would not be airing anymore was Head of the Class on ABC. The tv show ended in 1991 after 5 years running and I remember that I pretended to have to be sick so I could stay at home and watch the final episode of that season (I did not know it would be canceled). So, on the last episode, the students graduated, the school closed down and it was also demolished! I was in tears by the end of that episode, specially when I realized that without the school, the sitcom was OVER!

I was heartbroken with Homicide: Life on the Streets went off the air. Such a great show that nobody watched.

I can’t believe you guys discussed “Guess Who?” Equally amazing – you discussed ‘STAR WARS’ edition. My wife and I have joked about a ‘Stormtrooper’ edition, and I have this mental image of two Stormtroopers playing guess who, with the entire board identical Stormtrooper faces, asking questions like “Is your person wearing a white helmet?” and “Is your person standard height?”

Just a thought.

And also, we play the game regularly, making up elaborate back stories of the characters as we go along. Like Alfred, the one-armed convicted rapist born-again Christian. He lost his hand gambling in international waters and saw Jesus while he was starving on his life-raft. Cliche, I know, but it would be a great start to that “Guess Who: The Movie” movie. COPYRIGHT! TM TM! I’m now going to begin casting that film, the next time I play said game.

Look up a picture of Alfred and tell me I’m wrong.

I was devastated when The Kids from C.A.P.E.R. was taken off the air in 1976. Seriously, I was so upset I cried. I was eight at the time.

When Nickelodeon’s Kablam! ended, it was a significant bummer. (it was a show with some cartoon shorts, some stop motion shorts, hosted by two cartoon characters leading into the short minishows. Action League Now, Prometheus and Bob, and that They Might Be Giants video “Doctor Worm” just played almost every time that it was on. It was so goooooooooood. And it’s not on dvd sadly. Four seasons may seem like enough but I needed MORREEEEEEE

I had only just discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000 shortly before it was canceled and I was completely confused when it didn’t come on any more. I still can’t understand how you could cancel such a great show.

I was heartbroken when Boy Meets World ended. I know that’s kind of ridiculous, because they could not technically take it much further than college and marriage without changing the title to “Man Lives In World.” But nonetheless, I’m pretty sure I shed a tear or five at the finale. I miss it still.

I grew up watching a lot of Nick @ Night like Vanessa so most of my favorite shows were I Love Lucy, Bonanza or The Twilight Zone so they were already long gone.
But I was one of the people rather upset when Freaks & Geeks got cancelled. My childhood crush on James Franco had begun and he was being ripped away too soon.

The first series that I was upset about going off the air was “Wizards and Warriors”. I remember being so mad that I wasn’t going to see Duncan Regehr as Dirk Blackpool that me and a friend planned a retaliation against our local CBS affiliate. (we thought it was their fault) that we planned an attack to disable the station in Boise and the transmitter on Bogus simultaneously. (Hey that was pretty involved for 13 year old girls) We didn’t do it of course. Making those plans made the hurt go away. But in hind sight made us look like future terrorists. (cha, right)
