… thanks for letting me share.

That being said, I have found recently that there is a disturbing amount of Duran Duran and Michael Jackson in my iTunes library.

Mine was a Flock of Seaguls. This was right around when we got MTV in my town, and I was coming off of my 16 year old heavy metal persona. When I saw these guys’and their hair, I kinda really dug them for 2 albums in the early 80’s.

So it was that I, in the late 90s, was sold on “Forever Young” by Alphaville, so much that I even bought the full cd. Those were, in so many ways, the dark ages of my life.

As I grew older I strayed away from current chart toppers and onto the songs of yesteryear, and the first rock god hero I ever had was Billy Idol. The half smile, the full on leather swag, and the fact that even today, he continues to rock out all the time, all over the world. Even when Billy was busted up from a motorcycle accident, he didn’t stop filming new videos. My favorite guilty pleasure of the 80’s was Huey Lewis and the News which I thank Back to the Future for introducing me.

It’s perfect for everything- doing geometry homework, lip syncing to my Discman when riding in my mom’s minivan, making up dances with friends in my bedroom, crying to when the cutest boy in school, Adam Saylor, wouldn’t give me the time of day… all kinds of fun memories! Plus, how can you NOT sing along to the “ohhh-ohhhhhhhhhh-OHHH-oh unh-unh” part?

The ’80s were when I first got into pop music. The first group I was really into was Alvin & the Chipmunks. The first two LPs I ever bought with my own money were Men at Work’s Business as Usual and Hall & Oates’ H2O. I listened the hell out of those records. Sorry Vanessa, but even as a Canadian kid, I hated Sharon, Lois & Bram— give me Raffi any day of the week.
