About a REAL kid, not some precocious twerp. Lewis is a loner/nerd who solved mysteries with the help of his tomboy neighbor Rose Rita and his wizard uncle and HIS best friend witch/neighbor Florence. Bonus, the original covers were illustrated by Edward Gorey. Ah-mazing.

I was hooked on reading all the Hardy Boys, then moved on to reading every Louis L’amour western I could get my hands on.

Three Investigators was the first series I was into. I am both scared and excited to see if anyone ever does a movie adaptation.

My parents read the first few to me, and then I took over. A little later on, I liked the Ender’s Game books.

Luckily I never watched the Disney adaptation of The Black Cauldron till I was an adult as it would’ve disappointed seven year-old me.

Fantastic stuff that is still fun to read.

The first series I really enjoyed “The Belgariad.” Unfortunately David Eddings’s subsequent stories were really just rehashing the same plots again over and over.

I’d read them all 5 or 6 times before I realized that the lord of the castle’s name was Incarnadine, not Incarnate.

I’m old enough that the majority of the ones I ever owned were “presented by” Alfred Hitchcock, and featured him as a character in bookending first and last chapters.

Great hearing Doug Jones. Always knew he was one of the Gentlemen, but for some reason always thought the lead Gentleman was Camden Toy. Glad to finally know the truth…

There were 2 other book series that were very similar. I THINK they were done by the same writer. Two-minute Mysteries, and Incognito Mosquito.

It was full of amazing imagery and the characters really grabbed me. The ending was a small let down, but now that there’s a new book, I may have to revisit that world.

I think I’ve read them all over the years, with my favorite being Marlfox.

I wish Brian Jacques came to my school 🙁

He came to our local bookstore when I was in elementary school (after I had already started reading them) and he autographed my copies. They are still among my most treasured possessions.

Then I moved on to Sweet Valley High.
