I remember having 3 magazines as a small child in the 70s, no idea which came first. Sesame Street Magazine, 321 contact, and Ranger Rick. I even remember the 3-2-1 contact had a close encounters of the third kind issue, so that must have been 1979 or so.

Had a subscription to Ranger Rick when I was a pre-teen, but that was probably my parent’s idea. First subscription I requested was Games Magazine, and the first subscription I actually paid for was Sports Illustrated.

Nickelodeon Magazine – Technically, I got two subscriptions (two copies a month), because both my parents and my grandparents had gotten the subscription for me as a gift (apparently a lack in communication). I now work at Nickelodeon! Coincidental, right?

I think my parents got us a subscription to Highlights, and my grandparents got us National Geographic. The first one I picked was probably something awful like Teen Vogue. I also had a subscription to those Wild Life Fact File things that showed up every month and you’d put your new animal fact cards in the binders taking up an entire shelf somewhere…

Dog Fancy – no joke, when I was young I was really into dogs. My Mom got me a subscription and it was fantastic. I remember sitting in my room pouring over those magazines dreaming of living in a mansion full of dogs. Funny how your dreams change as you grow up…
