I was 11. And my cousin took me because he knew I was a fan. The show opened, if I remember correctly with a medley of “Bicycle”and “Fat B.G” and out rides about 30 fat bottomed girls, all topless. BTW. I smoked pot that night for the first time, it was a joint rolled in Strawberry Rolling Papers.

I’m not really a fan but my friend was going to see them up in Toronto, and being from the suburbs of Richmond, VA, I thought it’d be a cool trip. Unfortunately, we were literally sitting in the last row of the nosebleed section in the stadium. I remember because I ended up resting my head back against the wall after spending the first few minutes squinting to see the band on stage. If the seats had been better, I might have actually enjoyed the experience, but it was pretty terrible. At least I learned that Toronto is really nice!

I had heard his demo cd and then Room for Squares came out. I was so glad to get tickets at the Ryman in Nashvile in a pretty decent location. Unfortunately, nothing could dispel the hours of douche baggery that soon followed. I have never been to a show where the performer was more impressed with himself than this one. I remember leaving just feeling dirty. My friend and I drowned our sorrows with lots of coffee and pancakes at a nearby IHOP.

It was Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad in a park maybe ten years ago. For whatever reason the stage was on the other side of an artificial lake. So despite being up front, he was at least a hundred feet away from me and the rest of the crowd. I think it was a bit embarrassing for everyone there.

First, I had never heard of Trixter (and I’m pretty sure they were never heard from again), and they were a group of teenagers playing rote hair metal (and badly). Then the Scorpions came out, and they gave a performance I can only describe as lackluster. Or maybe fucking boring. They might as well have been lip synching to MTV. Very disappointting.

His set consisted of doing the hook to his 7 most popular songs (note i just said the hook…not even the whole fucking song!!!), dancing for a few seconds, promoting his label ever other minute (which was his dj yelling NAPPY BOY!!! followed by gunshots then a bomb dropping sound effect). Oh and because it was outside me the people i was with decided to leave early after he, in what has got to be the worst attempt to get along with your audience ever, said “boy, their sure are a lot of white people here”….unsurprisingly this did not go over well.

Bluh.

Also disappointing, my work computer doesn’t have whatever plugins to let me listen to this now!
