I go to community college and the first time I went to visit a friends college I realized what i was missing out on. We went to a party and there was beer everywhere and the whole apartment building was filled inside and on the balconies with people. I just finished watching Undeclared too and it made me feel like I was missing out again

First semester, freshman year, my very first class ever was an English class and as a quick review of parts of speech my professor wrote a simple sentence on the chalkboard. “Tom went to the store and bought pizza and beer.” I read that and thought, “I’m not in high school anymore, this is college and this is going to be good.”

Homeless people would come to the library to read the newspaper. There were also people looking at internet porn in this same library.(I heard one guy even pleasured himself while looking at internet porn). Needless to say, I stopped going to this library

I think I realized “Oh this is what college is like” after the first semester when I gained 20lb do to dining hall food and no longer having energy to go to the gym. Even 5 years later I’m still trying to drop that weight. Darn college!

I joined the college radio station, and our first party involved making “wizard staffs”by taping our empty beer cans to the bottom of our new beer and smashing old vinyl records with bats and metal bars for the hell of it. I wanted to look like I belonged, so I wore an old “The Cure” shirt that i just thought was really long and had bought at a garage sale. I was informed that it was intended to be a night dress thing for little girls…College was cool.

For me, it was when my friend and I escorted some girls back to their place after a party. We didn’t keep track of time and missed the last subway train back home. We didn’t have money for a cab and didn’t know the night bus routes for that part of the city, so we ended up just walking the whole way. It had been long enough that the booze we’d drunk was wearing off, so my friend decided to light up a joint- he started feeling sick almost immediately.

So on top of walking through an unfamiliar part of town in the dead of night, I had to corral this guy who was stumbling and heaving and trying to sit down in the street all the time. The freedom of adulthood!

Waking up hungover, slightly after noon, on a Sunday, and stumbling over to the place they made freshman get a meal plan.

Eating as many grilled cheeses as I could possibly stuff in my face. Then a couple more.

It wasn’t the quintessential college experience, but it’s one of the first I realised – ain’t no one going to tell me how and when to eat anymore.

Well, unless/until I get married.

I was a shy, quiet, non-drinking son of a cop that wasn’t really into the house-party scene because I didn’t want to get arrested. After 3 weeks, my roommate, some strange guy I didn’t know from another state, finally wore me down and I agreed to go to my first house party… which was, of course, busted after about 45 minutes. Thankfully, after running through back yards and jumping over fences, we got away without getting caught. Tired and exhausted, we made our way back to our dorm. My roommate fell asleep instantly and drunk-snored as loud as a semi all night long. I looked back at the night and thought, “Yup… this is college.”

My freshan year suite had 8 freshmen girls and 2 sophomore girls who both, for various reasons, had boyfriends that lived in their tiny one person dorm rooms. By the end of the first week we’d heard both sophomores having REALLY LOUD sex (one of them with animal noises) in the showers in the theoretically girls-only bathroom.

To Vanessa’s never skipping things… I have 3 _engraved medals_ from my Latin professor/later advisor for perfect attendance in Latin.

I didn’t party or get drunk a lot in high school so the first I really felt like “this is college” was when I got so drunk and all I wanted was veggie fried rice so I called and left a voicemail. It never came! College is all about unfulfilled chinese food dreams!

It was about 6 weeks into my Freshman year, and my roommate and a friend and I went to a party. It was getting around midnight, and I went to find them to go, and they said they didn’t want to. That’s when I knew – my mom would never know if I left at a decent hour or not! I ended up sleeping there (JUST SLEEP!) until 7am. That was the day.

On a Saturday night during my freshman year, my roommate and I had run out of money, so we couldn’t go out with the rest of our hall mates. We had nothing to do and we ended up staying in our dorm room and playing card games until the wee hours. That was my first realization that being bored and dead-ass broke would be a huge part of my college experience.
