I learned some holiday standards, took about 15 years off, and since taught myself the ‘FUN’ song from Sponge Bob. Also, Bruce is my favorite kid from the hall! 🙂

The first family instrument was the technologically Interesting Optigan organ/synthesizer (you slipped LP-sized floppy discs into an optical scanner to set the various keyboard and rhythm sounds). I was the worst in the family at playing that and subsequent keyboards. I’ve since been a terrible trombonist and drummer. Though I did show my brother, just getting acquainted with his fretless electric bass guitar, how to play the bass line for Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme”…something he was having difficulty with only because he was trying inadvertently to stick with the frets that didn’t exist on the new instrument’s neck. Trombone experience helpful thus.

It was a cheap off-brand that I bought at a pawn shop for like $50. I taught myself how to play a few Green Day songs and “Santa Monica” by Everclear, but because I didn’t own an amp, nothing sounded right. Eventually I just gave up on it and sold the guitar a few years later. Not learning how to play it is one of my biggest regrets ever.

In the 8 months I’ve owned it, I’ve only split one tom-head. I can play about 4 Devo songs and 1 Oingo Boingo song.
