1. Jay Leno winning Mark Twain Prize for humor. I was never big Tonight Show fan cause I knew when you go into that slot you have to dumb down everything. But in the eighties, Leno showed how funny he could be especially on Late Night. I rank him with the greats like Rodney, Prior, Carlin, Rivers, and Rickles.
2.Bruno Mars. Does not get his due but you can have all the pop tarts with guest rappers on their recordings, “Uptown Funk” is the catchiest, most dynamic song of the year. When I saw him on SNL, I just about fell off the couch. What a performance. He just never gets his due.
3. The movie Life Itself. Not easy to look at but shows Roger Ebert warts and all. I am somewhat prejudiced because I was born and raised in Chicago. Even before and during his TV shows, I was always reading his reviews for the weekend in the Chicago Sun-Times. Found his point of view was more like mine and became big fan of movie going. Learned to empathize more with many previously unknown topics.
4. Like your podcast but this year I discovered Gilbert Gottfried’s podcast. He is dirty, annoying, and laugh out loud funny. It is hard to find anyone that can make you laugh out loud and not stop.
5. Fargo-True Detective-Whiplash-Boyhood-Snowpiercer. All great.
