I’d started my new job, and every summer they have a summer activity. As the CEO loved baseball, we were all invited along to a game. Though I politely declined, I was told in no uncertain terms that this was something I HAD to participate in. Sooo… yeah. I got to attend an Atlanta Braves game. We had a private box up at the very top of the stadium, adjoined to a small room with snacks, drinks, a TV, and AC. Knowing absolutely nothing about baseball or my new colleagues, the entire thing was rather uncomfortable. But the wings and soda were great. And I guess it’s nice to have had the experience of attending a sports outing like a rich person.

For one summer when I was about five, my mom worked in the Royals’ front office. We would get to go to the games for free and sit down by home plate when the season ticket holders didn’t claim tickets for various games. I remember going to a lot of games that summer. I have a very vivid memory of wearing a shirt with Sluggerr (the mascot) on it and going up to him when he came by our seats. I was so excited to be that close to him. He poked my stomach and pretended like he was giggling. I also remember writing a letter to Johnny Damon, which my mom put in his mailbox, and being surprised with an autographed baseball card from him a few days later. He was my favorite Royal and I was so excited. I hung it up in my room until he left the Royals a few years later, when I promptly burst into tears and ripped the card to pieces.

I was in Boston for a college workshop and as part of the workshop they gave us standing only tickets to see the Red Sox vs Texas Rangers. One of the girls in my group was from Boston so she said we should just sit in seats and just move if the people in those seats came. We ended up having to move about 7 times. I felt so bad for sitting in other peoples seats but it was really fun being so close to the field! 🙂
