Are they considered domesticated…? But yeah, from toys to shirts, everything had to be elephants. They’re so sweet and intelligent, and one of the few animals to show true emotions. Still love ’em, but the obsession has waned.

I loved that they were the fast animal on land and I even campaigned to make our school’s mascot a cheetah when I was in middle school, since our school didn’t have a mascot. When we were doing this ‘election’ for a mascot, we had to make ballot boxes that were on theme with our choice, so I distinctly remember taking a big plastic animal cracker tub and turning into a cheetah. It ended up winning, so I was super proud.

I didn’t actually see them until I visited the San Diego Zoo as an adult. Now we have them here at the Oklahoma City Zoo and I can spend hours watching them. They’re adorable and actually really interesting to watch.
