Kevin Pollak guest on Pop My Culture Podcast

Cole, Vanessa, and our favorite Usual Suspect Kevin Pollak (“Casino,” “A Few Good Men,” and “Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show”) talk Game of Thrones, Ryan Dunn vs. Roger Ebert, Doug Hutchison’s craddle robbing, poker, meeting William Shatner, an Oscar party with Lemmon & Matthau, Hugh Hefner, keys to doing impressions, chunky Prefontaine, the Million Dollar Mystery debacle, summer camp, Vincent Gallo, wearing squibs, the Kevin blender, celebrity tweets, Martin Scorsese, and Kevin’s unusual gig hanging out with Ice-T and Coco on Richard Branson’s private island.

Leave your answer to the firsts question (the first impression you ever did) for a chance to win a Usual Suspects DVD signed by Kevin!

First impression: Sean Connery…or Kermit the Frog. Neither one was good.

First impression: Peter Lorre. Sad but true.

Jimmy Cagney. “You dirty rat…” Watched a lot of old movies with my dad when I was a kid, and that was the first voice I thought I could copy. And I did. Poorly…

My first impression I remember doing was Benny from Top Cat. It would annoy people so much. Especially my mom. Sorry mom.

Oohhh… Good question. It was probably someone from The Princess Bride (because that was one of the only movies we had on VHS growing up). To preserve my internet-cred, I’m going to say it was Inigo Montoya.

W.C. Fields, in a 4th grade play. I had to be a drunk lawyer defending the Big Bad Wolf. Witnesses for the prosecution included all the Usual Suspects. Del Toro as straw house pig, Baldwin as the stick house pig, and Pollack as the bricks house pig. Spacey as Red Riding Hood and Byrne is Grandma Hood. Come to find out, the wolf really is innocent, that little girl is not really a girl, and nobody will ever see her again. Poof!

I auditioned for America’s Funniest People with my Urkel impression.

I know this will shock you, but I didn’t make the cut.

Urkel is the first impression I really remember, but I think I did Fozzie Bear, too. Or Animal from the Muppets.

My first impression was of Tommy Pickles, the Rugrats character. It wasn’t great but when they introduced Dil Pickles I was able to do a great impression of him. Of course, he spoke mostly gobbly gook.

It’s uncanny to me how similar Kevin Pollak and Samm Levine’s voices sound to each other.

Sorry to be so far behind!

To Cole’s point about deaths of popular characters:
The person who stands out in my mind when this comes up is Joss Whedon.

Buffy, Angel and Serenity!! All featured that “Holy shit! got killed???”

Great show. Kevin is always a treat to listen to.

    Best,
    Vic
