A tiny stuffed teddy bear I got from my piano teacher’s prize bin.

The first gift I received from an admirer was a brooch that looked lifted from Delta Burke, but he had actually swiped from his mom. It was gold with a plastic, pink spinel in the center. I still have it.

The first gift I remember giving to a crush was a mix CD, back in middle school. I put all the songs that reminded me of her and what I hoped our relationship could be. Then I realized that might be a bit too much, so I tried add relatively neutral songs so my message wouldn’t come across so strong.

Unfortunately, one of my random “neutral” songs was the Rubber Ducky Song from Sesame Street. I don’t know if you’ve ever listened to that song in the context of someone wanting to start a relationship, but it’s all kinds of wrong. Not only did I not get the girl, but a number of my friends made fun of me for it for years to come.

I was a totally uncomfortable with myself, art geek. So I gave a drawing that I drew up during one of my classes. First thing that i ever received was a mixed CD.

It was not my first crush, but the most memorable thing I gave to one in particular was the generic “from the heart” letter explaining my feelings and such. The response I got back was simply grammer and spelling corrections for the letter.

When I first met my wife 6 years ago, I was in the process of making her a “mixtape” and made a comment about how I had something I was making for her. She joked and said I hope it’s a macaroni necklace… I scrapped the mixtape idea and immediately ran out and bought macaroni, metallic paint and a silver chain and built the most “elegant” looking macaroni necklace you have ever seen! She thought it was the cutest thing in the universe. Actually, the first night we met, she broke the door handle off my Honda Civic – for Christmas this year, I ordered that exact door handle from ebay motors and am using it to build a custom drawer for her. I know, I’m uber cheesy! : )

My 4th grade crush gave me a stuffed Spuds Mackenzie doll. I had no idea what it was and when I found out, I really didn’t find it very romantic. A week later his best friend gave me a bouquet of roses, so I picked him 😉

I remember very vividly when I was 15. My first boyfriend gave me a plastic rose, it was a little dusty but I liked it. No one had ever done anything like that for me. Loved it.

Funny you guys mentioned vinyls/records, because the first thing I gave a crush was an Edison cylinder when I was 14. Scoured antique shops to find something “romantic.” Have no idea what was actually recorded on it, but I thought it fit.
