I grew up in the country, and we didn’t do haunted houses out there, but one of my first memories is making my mother wait outside the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland with me as a young child because I was too scared to get in the line. (There’s scary stuff in the line!)

My first haunted house was at The Squirrel Cage Jail in my hometown of Council Bluffs Iowa in 5th grade. It was built in the late 1800s and was a great place for a haunted house. My older sister took me and told me there was nothing to be afraid in the jail. Not two seconds later a guy working there came out of nowhere and told he “Yes, David. There is nothing to be afraid of.” I was terrified.

P.S. – Thanks for still posting on AST.
